Aananda Karrnaa Zen Mobile Recruitment Process Visual Communication DesignerI use to work for a creative agency based out at shushant lok gurgaon, after updating my work profile from a job portal, i was sitting and doing some research i got a call from a lady named Swati Katyal and she said, “Hey aananda we got to see your design portfolio and we found it extremely impressive” so want you to come over and meet our Direction Nitesh Gupta. I realised right two days back i did applied to a mobile brand but that was Micromaxx but how come i am getting a call from Zen mobile that happened too quickly and i followed what they said.

I was wearing a T shirt and A blue jeans i remember i had a goatee back then. the day of my interview at zen mobile head office i met Vignesh Panch and who use to be the brand manager and Rahul Chaudhary  as Product Manager.

I was carrying my macbook pro 17″ it was an old model by apple i got it in gift from my cousin brother who bought it in Johannesburg and he had been using it for 2 years. i was a big apple devotee since 2007.

So vignesh started his list of questions.

The first question he asked the most mainstream question of all the interview.  “So aananda tell us something about yourself”
I said i am a communication designer and i work a agency in gurgaon. then he asked why should we hire you. i completely remember i said “you know why, i just needed a change so i applied to micromaxx i dont have a clue how i landed to zen mobiles”

he laughed and said. ok fine! tell us how you are different from other designers, i said i am pretty much like other designers, i feel the only difference between me and others are when i work on something i like doing i do not care about day-night-hunger-thirst. i just go with the flow, design is something that keeps me alive. i can see a logo and taste it and tell how it taste what is missing and whats there.

he said good. now you have 15 minutes and asked me to follow him. we assembled in a conference hall and he said you have 15 minutes to design a print ad a logo for a power-bank.

I asked them wifi password and within 9 minutes i presented him what i had ready. he said gimme 2 minutes he went in and arranged a meeting with Mr. Nitesh Gupta. He was cool dude in red t-shirt with spike hair. he asked hi aananda i have heard a lot about you from vignesh and rahul, do have something to show or you need time? i said yes i have couple of things ready which are not finished yet. i have to leave in next 5 minutes, he asked the urgency i said there is a meeting i have to attend by 5o clock in gurgaon. he said okay then show me what you have done in past. i showed him my projects on an online design portfolio link. he loved most of my stuff. and asked his last question. “why do you want to change your current job when you are doing so many happy work” i said there more to be explored i am not getting that opportunity and i am unable to use my full potential right here. he gave some gestures to vigensh who was standing right behind me. and then a HR  Manager came up, had to leave nitesh cabin. the HR guy said you have to meet Ms. Upma Batra the HR head. it was long discussion over there. it took me half an hour to convince her little things about my salary part. what clears it i got selected. i came back and by the evening i got a call from vignesh i have to join within 7 days and my next challenge was to do a smooth resignation.
