Deloitte Job Process – Business Technical Analyst – Chirag Takker
Please tell us about your placement procedure at Deloitte (Short listing procedure, GDs, Interviews).
There were three rounds. First there was an online written test which comprised of two sections (English and Quant). Quant consisted of basic level questions so no rocket science required in this just manage your time well and you’ll get through. Some 200 people sat for my profile and around 90 got shortlisted for the next round which was conducted couple of days after the written test.
Then there was a case study based group interview. They have a very unusual kind of GD, which consists of two parts. Firstly all team members discuss the case (as in the case of any normal GD) but then the twist is your team has to present whatever you have finalized as the solution to the problem to a new panel of judges. They give you a full chart on which you note down all the key points during your discussion and then later on use the same to present a different set of mentors.
(Tip: You are part of same team so please don’t counter any team member, you will get your chance to speak! It is not the quantity but the quality of your points that matter).
Finally some 35 student were selected for one personal interview round. Panel consisted of two people, it was very chill but they check everything. Your resume will be scrutinized thoroughly so make sure not to fake, or do it smartly. Apart from resume focus on projects you did in your college, puzzles and guesstimates. Interview usually lasts for 25-30 minutes. They asked me 9 ball puzzle, 25 horses puzzle and a guesstimate question to calculate number of college students travelling in Delhi metro. (Tip: just be yourself)
What helped you sail through the hurdles and crack one of the finest jobs?
A company like Deloitte looks for more than academic excellence, so I guess the time spent outside classroom really helped me a lot in my overall grooming which is a necessity to crack any good company. Also have faith in yourself, in your ability placement season can be tough but your hardwork will eventually pay! (Tip: No tip here just thank god when you get that job! Its 50% hardwork 50% luck)
How did you prepare for the placement season? What advice would you give to your juniors regarding the placement season?
Don’t ignore practicing quant! You might feel ‘Oh I am born intelligent I don’t need to practice speed distance questions’ but please there is no harm in lowering your self esteem and practicing for those two months. Every company has a written test and unless you clear that you won’t proceed. Also work on your resume get it proof read by your seniors and friends. Also do a good google search on the company before appearing for its process. Everyone likes if you read about them! For guesstimates I watched victor cheng videos and if you want you can also read ‘case in point’ book.
You don’t need extraordinary percentage to land a good job. But having a decent percentage only helps! Try to keep it above 60 and you will be fine!
I did 2 projects and one internship. I interned with Microsoft SMSG they visited our campus, and I was selected on campus only! (So no fight or jugaad there) . I did a project on machine learning, just find a good professor, they usually have a lot of projects its just that we never approach them. You’ll have to do a bit of effort.
I think two internships and two projects would be more than enough!
Are you planning to do higher studies in near future?
I have not planned anything right now. But yes I plan to do MBA in like 2 years if I am able to crack any decent college. Rest lets see life takes me!
Would you like to give any general advice to your juniors in NSIT?
College time is the best time to try new things, explore and make bonds and relations for lifetime. So my advice will be get out of that classroom and interact with people. There are some very cool and smart people in our college. Also in the long run the only thing that you take away from this college that will be left with you is friendship and memories you built here. So explore various societies but dedicate yourself in only a handful of them and please don’t think about placements from day one, try to find your passion and rest everything will follow!
