Airtel Job Process – Technical Leader – Arpan Khosla


Arpan Khosla, Young Technical Leader at Airtel, shares his experience in this brief interview.


1. Please tell us about your placement procedure at Airtel (Short listing procedure, GDs, Interviews).

Arpan Khosla Airtel Job Process Young Technical Leader Placement procedure involved a percentage based shortlisting ( 70% and above for ice . for  other streams the cap was less) followed by a written test which had 20 aptitude ques. ( easy  but needed great speed ) and 5 technical ques. ( networking & communication ) to be  completed in 10 mins. After that there was a GD in which they were giving any current  trending topic ( they can also give any abstract topic )and were mostly checking verbal skills  . A PI followed which had questions from my CV ( they grill u like a sandwich) , Technical  questions involving networking , communication , questions from your stream and some  basic HR questions .


 2. What helped you sail through the hurdles and crack one of the finest jobs?

I never believed that Instrumentation and Control was just a cool branch and not a core one. what helped me was a  firm belief to crack a technical job , a decent % , will to take risk of screwing 3 – 4 extremely  reputed non tech firms in anticipation of a tech job, Interview experience I gained from these firms where I had nothing to loose, advice from some extremely approachable seniors and some luck ofcourse which had a successful day in store for me .


3. How did you prepare for the placement season? What advice would you give to your juniors regarding the placement season?
Preparation wasn’t even close to perfect since I kept all avenues ( software , electronics and  instrumentation) all open and studied them in tandem in the summer vacations. As the  placement season started , I even started reading case study books as a fallback option. But I  gradually realized that this jack needed to close some options as interviews  are some books I referred to :  for ICE – nakra chaudhary , stephanopolous helped. For Ece –  I prepared analog from sedra , a Dropbox shared by seniors and digital electronics from  morris Mano and anand kumar. I also studied communication ( simon haykinand B.P.  Lathi) and networking ( kurose ross ) which in the end brought me this job. One should also  read about everything and anything that airtel is into like IPTV , DTH , broadband , etc. To  have an edge.

 Advice : you’ll  fail , you’ll fall ..but don’t lose hope . search ,Explore.. but don’t  get lost……. Focus on what you want and not what u may get eventually. Placement season is tiring but it brings out the best in us. Take advice from seniors in preparing your CV, believe in luck and perform.and do study quant and DI( the so called MBA stuff)  from credible sites or coaching modules .( FYI : I did from career launcher modules).and do wear a smile during the course of the interview . Its tested and it works.


4. What’s the role of academics in getting a good placement at NSIT?

Money isn’t everything but let’s say almost everything. A 70% is good enough to get you a look in to 95% companies. Although you may possess countless talents , but for an outsider your first impression  is as good as your CV and Percentage .so don’t neglect it.for


5. What all internships and projects you did while in college? How did you get them?

I did a non tech project on Quality of education in India schools and a tech project ‘ street light control by sensing density of traffic ‘ under able faculty members. I did 3 interns 1) WESEE – ministry of defense 2) Air India 3) Bechtel . I got them by contacts and you too should start exercising yours as soon as possible .


6. Are you planning to do higher studies in near future?

No , not in the near future. I want to have a work ex first .


7. Would you like to give any general advice to your juniors in NSIT?

Don’t worry . there is one day that is definitely made just for you( no this isn’t some high power preaching) . Enjoy college life , take risks and not get bothered about placements from day one. Academics and co curriculars go hand in hand. So don’t just be a technical bimbo. These four years are like Fourier .. Keep transforming them. Best of luck and remember there is no tried and tested way to get success except the smile part .
